STrides Programs
Changing STRIDES
STAR’s Changing STRIDES program teaches life skills to at-risk youth aged 10-17 and women in crisis by developing partnerships with horses. This program provides the tools to better manage their lives and foster positive relationships while teaching problem-solving, appropriate communication, anger management, and personal fortitude. Most of the lesson consists of interaction on the ground with the horses and learning to co-exist with herd animals where trust is the foundation. Changing STRIDES also addresses citizenship and public speaking.

Stable Friends
Inducted in 2020 in response to the needs of the community, STAR's Stable Friends program offers teens aged 10-17 a short-term equine-assisted learning group. Stable Friends allows teens time outdoors, physical exercise, and supportive relationships with our equine partners, volunteers, and their peers.
The program focuses on stress reduction skills and relaxation while working on the ground with our STAR horses. *Please note, this is NOT a therapy group and we are not offering treatment for any diagnosis or disorder. |
Aligning STRIDES
Aligning STRIDES is a program for adults whom have undergone one year or more of recovery from addiction and/or substance use disorder. The program curriculum applies equine assisted learning practices to encourage participants to lead healthier and more fulfilling lives. The lessons that participants gain are based on developing key leadership skills to help them be successful in developing the capacity to be a mentor for others who are in earlier stages of recovery. Life skills are taught in partnership with the horses, including problem solving, communication skills, coping strategies, boundary setting, increased confidence, self-esteem, and trust-building, among other valuable skills to promote continual growth and learning.
