Reflections
Funded By:
Created as a supplemental program to Minis in Motion, STAR's Reflections program invites East Tennessee's early and middle-stage Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers to STAR for interaction with humans and horses every first and third Monday of the month.
Before the session, STAR will assess each participant for behavioral and physical suitability to the program. Caregivers are encouraged to attend alongside the participant to provide a familiar face and a soothing presence. After participating in two lessons with the participant, the caregiver can remain on site but rest during the session.
Following the assessment, each participant will be paired with a suitable equine and a STAR volunteer during the hour-long session. A STAR staff member with ESMHL certification supervises and directs the group.
The goal is to provide a positive experience for both the participant and their caregiver that facilitates the generation and use of language, encourages social interaction, and increases a sense of well-being.
To participate in STAR's Reflections program, or for more information call 865-988-4711, or email our Program Coordinator.
